About our webcam

Live Webcam With Sound - from Bognor Regis Pier

The webcam you see the live images from, is situated on the East Tower of the Pier at Bognor Regis (UK). It is with great thanks to the owners of Bognor Regis Pier to allow this camera to be installed to provide the 24/7 live views that is does.

It all started with an idea though in 2009

Bognor webcam view east

Back in 2009, it seemed that a lot more could be included on the internet especially, more information of Bognor's biggest asset... the beach. With that this website was born.

One thing that was lacking was a webcam to show the world what a great beach Bognor Regis has. Most of the beaches at Bognor Regis are family friendly with parking for most areas very near the beach.

On June 21st 2012, this webcam was first setup and went live.

Technology

Bognor Beach Webcam

The camera that is producing the live view is an Earthcam Camera. The camera produces a 24/7 live streaming views that include sound.

The camera has its own wiper and a heating/demisting element for those damp rainy days as well as an internal fan for when the sun is shining. All to make sure the camera runs the best it can all of the time throughout the year.

The camera is in a static position in that it has a fixed view. However, it is zoomed in from to time, to show a closer image of the beach. When this happens, the camera automatically resets to the full view on the hour.

Also at certain times throughout the year, the camera maybe re-positioned. These notificaitions will appear above the camera live streaming view.

Please feel free to ask any questions about the camera, or visit our Website facebook page or follow is on Twitter.

We hope you enjoy the live webcam view.

Happy viewing,  Colin Clark

Frequently asked question

Can the camera be turned round to face the other way?

Answer - Sorry ... No.

The camera is static and is installed on the Eastern tower on Bognor Regis Pier for the following reasons:

  • The bulk of the prevailing weather comes from the West in Bognor Regis. During winter storms the camera despite being protected somewhat by the rest of the pier structure, is frequently covered in sea/salt spray. Even though the camera does have a wiper, it is difficult to keep the front glass clean on a regular basis as the glass needs to be wet in order for it to be cleaned well automatically.
  • If the camera was facing the other way (West), this effect would be considerably worse and viewing would be severely compromised espesually during the winter months due to sea spray.
  • The West tower (facing West), also houses air conditioning fans which are very noisy. This noise would drown out the sounds of the sea and gulls that many people like to hear.
  • It was decided that overall throughout the year, the East view was better.
  • It was also far more convenient to locate the camera where it currently is, due to power/internet and accessibility for maintenance.

Although the camera in its current location can be swung round to view the West, due to the position/location of the camera on the Pier and the camera field of view, if it were to be turned round, the view would be mostly of the pier structure and nothing of the sea.

Great Idea - can see the beach and sea even when I'm far away!

WOW JUST GREAT!!! Saw it mentioned in this weeks local paper so tuned in soon after. Am now hooked, keep looking in. Saw a man going along with a metal detector on Sunday morning, watched one of the boats being pulled back up the beach later that day. My sister in Australia has just got an iPad so that we can keep in 'tapping' touch. Have told her about it,so she will watch. Thanks so much.

I recon this could be a great tool for attracting more visitors to Bognor. A cam in Hotham Park, the High Street and of course the west side of the pier would be great. Could council funding be sort???

What a fantastic service! Sitting here in overcast, grey Guildford. Just checked your camera and we are on the way...... save us a spot on the beach!

What a fantastic thing to do Colin. So very many thanks for doing this. I had longed for a webcam of the sea at Bognor for so long so that I needn't go out and brave the wind and waves during stormy weather in the winter. I forgot how interesting it would be just to see the sea rolling in even of calm and sunny days and as a plus to be able to see the fishing boats coming and going. Once again, many thanks from a happy viewer as I now have a sea view despite living a little inland..

Fantastic ! Thank you for this, a little piece of home on tap wherever we are in the world !! Great idea !

thank you so much for making the webcam available online,... I used to work in Bognor and still miss the place now,.. pity there cant be another webcam on the front of the pier (above the entrance to the amusements) showing the golf course, etc. :-)

This is a great idea. Whenever I miss my old home I can see it from my new one in Texas.

I really enjoy watching the Bognor Beach webscam from the storms rolling in to just a bit of tranquility when I need a quiet couple of minutes to recharge and all from the comfort and safety of my nearby home.
Thank you, there should be more around Bognor and surrounding areas.

I am feeling closer to the dear ones especially on a hurricane night...I am 12 h ahead in Shanghai so watching sleepy Bognor even windy makes me feel slightly better !

Wonderful webcam action. You should sell the sound track of the surf and wind for a sleep aid as it works for me. Are those fishing boats in the fore or just for pleasure rides. Lovely view , its now my first port of call every morning when I turn on the comp. Thank you

They are fishing boats in the foreground and go out most days very early in the morning. They then get hauled back up by a very old tractor.

I'm glad I discovered this website, I am Brazilian, I lived in Bognor seven years from 2005 to 2011, and returned to Brazil, but I love West Sussex, Bognor, I'm really happy to see a part of this city, the beach that made much walk, many thanks to you all.
