Horses on the beach at Bognor Regis

Horses and the beach

The beach is a great place to ride your horse on the sands at low tide. Horses are allowed on the beach at Bognor Regis under the following conditons.

The current byelaws relating to seashores & promenades for horses state that:-

  • No person shall on the seashore or promenade break in any horse or other animal or ride or drive any horse or other animal in a race so as to cause danger or annoyance to any person using the seashore or promenade.
  • No person shall between the hours of ten in the morning (10.00hrs) and six in the evening (18.00hrs) on any day between the first day of May (1st May) and the thirtieth day of September (13th September) ride any horse or other animal on any part of the seashore and promenade.
  • Although the beaches of Bognor Regis, Felpham and Pagham have a large amount of flat expanses of sand at low tide, they do have shingle at the shore end of the beaches, which could make access on horseback more difficult than if it were sand.
